"Volunteering as a garden educator with Dilulu has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Seeing the children's faces light up when they harvest their first vegetables is priceless. I've learned as much from the communities I work with as they've learned from me."
Garden Educator Volunteer, Senegal
"As a remote curriculum developer volunteer, I've been able to contribute to Dilulu's mission from my home in Canada. The team is incredibly supportive, and knowing that my lesson plans are being used in schools across Africa gives me a sense of purpose and connection to a global community."
Curriculum Developer Volunteer, Canada
"I started as a community garden assistant during a gap year, and it turned into a passion that has shaped my career path. The hands-on experience working with local farmers and gardeners taught me sustainable practices I couldn't have learned from books. Three years later, I'm still volunteering whenever I can."
Community Garden Assistant, Ghana
Do I need gardening experience to volunteer?
Not for all positions! While some roles do require gardening experience, many others focus on skills like teaching, event planning, social media, translation, or curriculum development. We provide training for all volunteers, so enthusiasm and willingness to learn are often more important than prior experience.
Can I volunteer if I don't live in Africa?
Absolutely! We offer remote volunteer opportunities that can be done from anywhere in the world. Additionally, we welcome international volunteers for our on-site positions, though you would need to arrange your own travel and accommodations.
Is there a minimum time commitment?
Time commitments vary by position. Some roles require a minimum commitment (typically 1-3 months) to ensure continuity for our programs, while others are project-based or event-specific. We try to be flexible and work with volunteers' schedules whenever possible.
Do you provide housing for volunteers?
We do not provide housing for volunteers, but we can suggest affordable accommodation options and sometimes connect volunteers with host families in the communities where we work.
Can I volunteer as part of a group or with my family?
Yes! We welcome group and family volunteering. Please contact us directly to discuss group volunteer opportunities, as these are often arranged on a case-by-case basis.
